솔로는 더욱 외롭게 만들고, 커플은 더욱 애정이 샘솟을 발렌타인데이 시기가 왔다. 극장가에는, 이 시기에 절대 빼놓을 수 없는 ‘사랑’을 주제로 한 달달한 영화들이 대거 개봉했다.

하지만 이번 발렌타인데이에 솔로는 외롭지 않겠다. 왜냐하면 남녀간의 사랑을 다룬 영화 외에도 다양한 사랑을 다룬 영화들이 상영 중이기 때문이다. 거부할 수 없는 매력의 천재와 스승을 다룬 영화, 남자들의 우정을 다룬 영화, 그리고 가족애를 중시하는 영화 등 다양한 장르의 영화가 극장가로 몰려왔다. 물론 커플들도 사랑을 즐기거나 힐링하며 배의 즐거움을 느낄 수 있다.

전 세계 1억 판매 부수를 기록한 동명의 베스트셀러 소설을 영화화한 <그레이의 50가지 그림자>가 다음 달 26일 국내 개봉을 확정했다.

<그레이의 50가지 그림자>는 모든 것을 다 가진 CEO이자 거부할 수 없는 매력을 지닌 크리스천 그레이(제이미 도넌)와 아찔한 사랑에 빠진 순수한 여대생 아나스타샤(다코타 존슨)의 본능을 깨우는 파격 로맨스를 그리는 영화다.

‘엄마들의 성애소설’이라는 애칭으로 원작 소설의 인기를 업은 <그레이의 50가지 그림자>가 소설 이상의 화제를 불러 모을지 궁금하다.

When Anastasia Steele (Ana), a literature student, goes to interview the wealthy Christian Grey as a favor to her roommate Kate Kavanagh, she encounters a beautiful, brilliant and intimidating man. The innocent and naïve Ana starts to realize she wants him, and despite his enigmatic reserve and advice, she finds herself desperate to get close to him. Not able to resist Ana’s beauty and independent spirit, Christian Grey admits he wants her too, but in his own terms. Ana hesitates as she discovers despite his embellishments of success, multinational businesses, vast wealth, his loving family, Grey is consumed by the need to control everything.

한국과 미국에 동시에 개봉된 <이미테이션 게임>은 실존 인물을 다룬 영화이다. 컴퓨터과학과 인공지능의 아버지로 불리는 천재 수학자이자 2차 세계대전을 승리로 이끌어낸 암호 해독가였던 앨런 튜링(베네딕트 컴버배치)이 그 주인공이다. 24시간마다 바뀌는 독일군의 암호를 해독하는데 동원된 튜링이 특수 기계를 발명해 임무를 완수하기까지의 과정을 드라마틱하게 그려낸다.

도무지 실제로 존재했을 것 같지 않은 비운의 괴짜 천재를 사실보다 더 사실처럼 보이게 하는 건 천재 전문 배우로 유명한 베네딕트 컴버배치의 카리스마가 아닐까? TV시리즈 <셜록>과 <호킹>, 영화 <반 고흐> 등에서 천재의 다양한 면모를 보여준 그는 <이미테이션 게임>에서 천재 연기의 정점을 보여준다. 배우와 캐릭터 사이의 접착 부위가 이물감이 전혀 느껴지지 않을 만큼 매끄럽다.

한편 <이미테이션 게임>은 곧 다가오는 제 87회 아카데미 시상식에서 작품상, 감독상, 남우주연상, 여우조연상, 각색상, 편집상, 음악상, 미술상 등 총 8개 부문에 노미네이트되며 작품성을 인정받았다.

The English-language debut of Headhunters Director Morten Tyldum, this British World War II thriller is a highly conventional story about humanity that creates a fascinating character anchored by a hypnotically complex performance.

‘스폰지밥’은 공식 홈페이지를 통해 영화 ‘스폰지밥 3D(원제 The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge out of Water)’의 예고편을 공개했다. 영화는 스폰지밥과 그의 친구들이 바다 속 애니메이션 세계에서 나와 해적의 계략을 막기 위해 지상의 현실 세계로 모험을 떠난다는 이야기를 그릴 예정이다.

‘스폰지밥’은 미국 니켈로디언사와 바이어컴 인터내셔널이 1999년 5월부터 제작한 애니메이션으로 한국에선 ‘네모네모 스펀지송’, ‘보글보글 스폰지밥’이라는 제목으로 방영된 바 있다. 집게리아에서 일하는 스폰지밥과 친구들의 일상을 유쾌하게 그린 애니메이션으로 전세계에서 큰 인기를 끌고 있다.

세상에서 가장 아찔하고 위험한 면접을 선보일 영화 <킹스맨: 시크릿 에이전트>가 개봉을 앞두고 있다.

<패딩턴>은 해외 개봉과 동시에 전세계 박스 오피스 1위를 휩쓴 ‘해피 패밀리 어드벤쳐’ 영화로 영화 <해리포터> 제작진이 만든 작품이다. 폴 킹이 감독을 맡았으며, 배우 니콜 기드먼이 주연을 맡았다.

폭풍우에 가족을 잃은 꼬마곰 패딩턴은 페루에서 영국까지 ‘나홀로’ 여행을 떠난다. 런던에 도착한 패딩턴은 우연히 브라운 가족을 만나게 되고 그들의 도움을 받아 새로운 가족을 찾아 나선다.

자신의 삶을 잃어버린 여자가 어떻게 자존감을 회복하고, 인생을 찾기 위해 투쟁을 벌이는지가 고스란히 담겨있다. 혼자서 딸을 키우는 이혼녀가 새로운 사랑에 빠지고 재혼까지 하게 되지만, 이후 다가오는 불행의 그림자는 안타까움을 자아낸다.

부부간의 갈등, 어머니와 딸의 관계 등 감정적인 부분은 물론 주인공들이 지닌 물욕(物慾)은 보통의 사람들과 다를 바 없다. 다만 예술가로서 추구하는 삶의 가치에 대한 부분이 남다른 상황이다. 관객들은 마가렛 킨의 삶을 통해 자신의 인생에서 중요한 것이 무엇인지에 대해 다시 생각해 볼 수 있다.

In San Francisco in the 1950s, Margaret is a woman trying to make it on her own after leaving her husband with only her daughter and her paintings. She meets gregarious ladies’ man and fellow painter Walter Keane in a park while she is struggling to make an impact with her drawings of children with big eyes. The two quickly become a pair with outgoing Walter selling their paintings and quiet Margaret holed up at home painting even more children with big eyes. However, Walter is actually selling her paintings as his own. A clash of financial success and critical failure soon sends Margaret reeling in her life of lies. With Walter still living the high life, Margaret has to try making it on her own again and re-claiming her name and her paintings.
